Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

This page proposes a personal review and comparison of social networking sites I've tried.

My profiles

FaceBook

p very clean interface, looks professional

p possibility to import personal blogs RSS streams feeds

p stories (blog posts) are categorized

p cool java batch photo uploader, unlimited albums

p "social timeline"

p limited profile and blocked users lists

m few french users, networks and support in general

Conclusion: very good networking site for american people or to keep in touch with particular friends networks (alumni etc...). may be good for professional networking as well.

MySpace

p exploding popularity: everybody is on myspace

n nationalities: worldwide, many americans

n interface: customizable (too much?)

m unstable quality of service

People from Ventabren (10km around 13122): 20

People from Aix-en-Provence (10km around 13100): 319

People from France (my extended network only): 3000

(Updated 08/11/2006)

Conclusion: the most popular => the most efficient to meet more people

Zorpia

It was one of the first social networking sites.

p nice & clean interface, very functional

p personalizable view of discussions (flat, threaded...)

p unlimited photo storage, albums can be downloaded as ZIP files

n comments can be replied, thread-like

m some features are limited to royal membership (unlimited messaging? who viewed your page...)

m no local people search (Paris is the only proposed choice for French cities)

People from France: 11300

(Updated 08/11/2006)

Conclusion: a nice platform to share your photo albums!

Ringo

p simple interface, easy navigation

p directory-like contacts list, very functional

p photo uploading software for big albums

p simple bulletin feature to keep your friends up to date about what you've been up to

m people browsing is based on photos and profile updates only

(Updated 08/11/2006)

Conclusion: a simple way to stay in touch with your friends and share your latest photos

Amiz

p nice & clean interface, simple to use

p YouTube videos are played on floating layers, keeping the pages clean

n very simple profile, not much info

m people search is not precise: keywords and city only

People from Ventabren: 4

People from Aix-en-Provence: 260 (+82)

People from France: ???

(Updated 08/11/2006)

Conclusion: easy social networking to exchange with friends and meet new friends

Hi5

p friend circles (clustering/grouping)

p easy profile customization (colors etc...)
